This bug still exists on a vanilla installation of Apache 2.2 and PHP 5.4.4.
The package versions installed are php5-ming (1:0.4.4-1.1) amd64
and libming1 (1:0.4.4-1.1) amd64.

Thanks Bill, this worked perfectly when I moved it out. I've now
upgraded and installed python-beaker 0.6.1-1 from the
3
/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/Beaker-0.9.4-py2.4.egg/beaker/ext/google.py

It looks like I've only got beaker from the stable distribution which
is version 0.6.1-1. Running dpkg -i

Ok figured out that if I change my mirrors to ftp.us.debian.org there
was an updated gzip package which fixes this issue on apt-get
dist-upgrade.
