The problem of not loading and throwing the "bad magic number" error was fixed
as follows:
1. run update and full-upgrade - problem still exists
2. reinstall calibre - problem still exists
3. aptitude purge calibre and calibre-bin

Just updated my wheezy system and Calibre fails to load. Seems like the same
problem as reported.

I have the same problem on two machines, both AMD64, wheezy.
The problem developed recently, I was using Calibre on squeeze with no problems
for several months and the probem developed in the last couple of weeks.
