At least kernel 2.6.26.3 from kernel.org works again, thus the bug was
resolved. Debian Kernel 2.6.24-1-686 still has the bug. The actual default
testing kernel 2.6.26-1 does not have

Really sorry about this one. I got
error: X11/Xlib.h: No such file or directory
error: X11/Xutil.h: No such file or directory
and many more X11 errors from within a Qt generated moc_myclass.cpp file, so I
thought it must be Qt. The errors were gone after installing the libx11-dev
and
tests against newer kernel.
also if none works a git bisect between 2.6.17 and 2.6.18
It took a bit longer, as this is my working computer and I could only reboot
if I had to anyway, but here we go:
