After a year or so of having Debian installed on my machine (Toshiba laptop
Satellite A135-SP5819) I have used little this program, yet it used to work
normally. Now I try to load it and always asks me for root password to use it
and it never shows up.

I do not recall if it used to have a manu logo as well, but that does not
appear on the menu selection either.
