this is a known issue for Clementine 0.7.1 and Gnome3 [1], which is
fixed in the current upstream release. As Thomas stated [2], this new
version 1.0.1 will soon be available.
Until then, the workaround I'm using is additionally running e.g. Totem
with an empty playlist; Clementine

the bug described *could* be related to a general (global) hotkey
problem with Clementine 0.7.1 and Gnome3. See [1]
However it does not (neccessarily?) explain, why Ctrl+Alt+Home/End works
for you. Maybe, for further investigation, could you try to use
