I'm also confirming that this still causes problems in the wheezy alpha 1 release (libcairo 1.12.2-1). It makes opening new tabs incredibly slow. I followed the instructions to rebuild libcairo2 and applied the patch and it resolves my issues. I was coming from Linux Mint 12/Ubuntu releases and thought there was something wrong with my setup.
