I'm trying to use smartctl to query disks on an Areca 1882 controller
in JBOD mode. The man page gives examples using /dev/sg[23], but I have
no such devices. The man page also suggests examining the contents
of files in /proc/scsi,
I found a better workaround. Let's move this to wishlist for mdadm.
Workaround for my system is to put the following in /etc/default/grub:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="rootdelay=9"
I would like a better solution, something that 1) forces mdadm to wait
for all its components before assembling the arrays
Is this related to bug #487435, as suggested to be the problem with
axiom bug #475170? Bug #475170 cites a poor interaction between gcl and
Debian's 2.6.25 kernel - it's not limited to amd64. You mentioned gcl
and I see you have a 2.6.25 kernel.

reinstalled/resetup with the instructions at
