I have booted with 2.6.39 from backports and was able to repair the
filesystem. (I took a snapshot of the lun first and tried the repair
on the snapshot first.)

Indeed that works. I tried it, however when you run it as the root user
it creates ~root/.spammassasin/config file.
I have tried to use the /usr/sbin/amavisd-new-cronjob script, but I'm

There are other Debian packages that use this kind of setup.
E.g.:

I tested and it still works. However I haven't installed a regular
machine just yet. (Will probably have time next week Monday or Tuesday.
