I can confirm this problem as well. It shows up most often when I try to do
anything using aptitude (even hitting "tab" to list packages) causes my
system to hard lock. I can still interact with running programs but
anything that requires disk i/o will not happen, including running sync.

I still have dependency issues with libasound:i386. If I run: apt-get
install --no-install-recommends libasound2-plugins:i386 I get this output:

but it is not going to be install

I recompiled the package from testing using the patch from message #15
(11_reparent_dialogs.patch). It works correctly and now xchat is
functional for me. Thank you! Hopefully this gets fixed upstream.
