I looked at the source for fbpanel and decided not to build
a debugging version. The configure program is a disappointment
and I am not a gtk2-dev follower.
I wonder about the define -1 in the taskbar.c code. Maybe
that is different for 32bit and 64bit math. Don't ask me.

I just installed fbpanel for amd64/pure64 sid with no 32bit compatability
and also received immediate Segmentation Fault.
The gdb points to taskbar.so as the culprit.
This was tested on the regular distribution fbpanel with no special
debugging symbols added. I
