With xmms 1.2.10+cvs20050209-2 on a sid box, I can properly configure the ALSA output plugin to use the master volume as the mixer device for xmms. You have to restart xmms to take the change into effect, but that's another issue if it's not acceptable. I think this bug can be closed.
