I also noticed that when I have this problem I hear a click of my
harddrive.
I have three of them, and since only one is used I presume the two others
go to sleep. So, when they sleep and I open my dropbox I hear a click sound
like one of the sleeping disk is waking up and this transition from
Hello there,
I think I am also affected with this bug. Allowing loopback operations
using:
*iptables -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT
iptables -A OUTPUT -o lo -j ACCEPT*

started to appear just today, and I have never had any
Hello,
This bug seems to be solved in Squeezy, but is present in Wheezy. I just
took the Wheezy Beta 1 CD and my screen went right away into white noise
state: http://www.shcherbyna.com/?p=1906 (I tried both GNOME KDE
editions).
I had to install firmware-linux-nonfree via ssh and it solved the

Hmph. Were there any userspace (X) upgrades on this machine in that

The only recent upgrade was openoffice updates pushed recently to stable.
I did not have this problem in x86 kernel ...

Hello Everyone,
So, I tried again to install stable 2.6.32-5-amd64. It went OK for two weeks

It seems like it just happens once.
I will try to repro it with vbox. Will make sure that I have a solid
test-case scenario and then will test it without vbox.
Speaking of testing modules. Is there any thing in Linux as Driver Verifier
which is used in Windows? It allows to check for pool
Hello Jonathan,

Do you remember what this was about? Does that machine boot a more
recent kernel without requiring special flags now, and if so, which
one?
I have never experienced this bug since 6.x Debian. So, I guess it is fixed.

Hm, maybe this is the trigger. Is firmware-linux-nonfree installed?
If not, it would be interesting to see if temporarily installing it
helps.
Thanks much for the screenshot, btw.
Thanks for the tip. It worked.

It is hard to say when exactly it happened, as dmesg is full of these lines,
all previous history is not saved.

Hello everyone,
I got exactly the same bug in Debian 6.0 x86_64 and KDE 4.4.5. The
workaround is to remove KDE cache folder from /var/tmp/kdecache-USER_NAME

I used latest stable netinstaller for 5.0.3 Debian, x64.
