Package: hplip Version: 2.7.10-5 Followup-For: Bug #457771
Same problems here, indeed related to locale management, with error messages like this: 'error: Invalid locale: fr_BE.utf8' If you're looking for a simple workaround to make hp-setup work (and other hplip binaries too), just run the commands in any console, but specifying the standard C locale, like this: yourbox:~# LANG=C.iso8859.1 hp-setup then other tools will work in the same way, eg yourbox:~$ LANG=C.iso8859.1 hp-toolbox Using an UTF-8 locale causes big troubles (PPD not found or cups install failure), as indicated in bug #458291. Even using locales other than 'C' means problems (ex hp-toolbox cant find any device). This is a simple workaround, but there are 2 problems with it : first, it's always better if everything works out of the box and second, it forces the users to use the English language. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.21-2-k7 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=fr_BE, LC_CTYPE=fr_BE (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages hplip depends on: ii adduser 3.105 add and remove users and groups ii coreutils 5.97-5.3 The GNU core utilities ii cupsys 1.3.5-1 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii hplip-data 2.7.10-5 HP Linux Printing and Imaging - da ii libc6 2.7-5 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcupsys2 1.3.5-1 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii libjpeg62 6b-14 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libsane 1.0.19~cvs20071213-1 API library for scanners ii libsnmp15 5.4.1~dfsg-5 SNMP (Simple Network Management Pr ii libssl0.9.8 0.9.8g-3 SSL shared libraries ii libusb-0.1-4 2:0.1.12-8 userspace USB programming library ii lsb-base 3.1-24 Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip ii python 2.4.4-6 An interactive high-level object-o ii python-support 0.7.5 automated rebuilding support for p Versions of packages hplip recommends: ii cupsys-client 1.3.5-1 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii hpijs 2.7.10+2.7.10-5 HP Linux Printing and Imaging - gs ii hpijs-ppds 2.7.10+2.7.10-5 HP Linux Printing and Imaging - HP ii hplip-gui 2.7.10-5 HP Linux Printing and Imaging - GU pn openprinting-ppds <none> (no description available) pn python-reportlab <none> (no description available) -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
