It seems that the problem is still available via netinstall. I started the installation via network with 4 discettes you can download from the web. The pcmcia network adapter worked properly during installation, but after rebooting there was no network anymore. The notebook is an old Toshiba 460CDT equipped with a Hama pcmcia networkadapter.

After three days I found out that the card responds in a positve way to the linux comand "modeprobe i82365". Happy about this improvement I found the hint from David for a permanent solution. Thanks for that. After the two step enhancement of the installation the system boots now properly with PCMCIA. Regarding to my limited knowledge about linux I would not be able to fix this bug neither to recognize it as such.
