kernel (as ) and not as module (as )?

I don't know if it is really a bug.
In the steps to reproduce the "problem" reported by John Capell I can read:
make-kpkg clean; sudo make-kpkg --append-to-version xx --revision xx
kernel-image; sudo dpkg -i
but he should specify the --initrd flag too!
So John, please, be sure to build
