package: installer
version: 3.1

I sent an email about an hour ago regarding the failure of the Debian 3.1
(sarge) installer. It was ignored because I didn't have the correct
header format. It went into the junk file. I hope this works.

the packages will not load because of disk errors. As explained
previously I loaded the linux distribution on a machine which was
running XP for about 3 years without error. I completely erased XP and
loaded Linux. I got the error and went back and cleaned and reformatted
the disk . I had no errors when I reformatted the disk. It was clean
and as far as I can tell had no disk errors. Again I loaded 3.1 and the
basic system loaded ok and when it
came to loading the packages I got the disk errors again.

Here is what I got:
Drive ready seek complete error
Status 0x51
error 0x30

It also listed the sectors involved in the error.

I don't know what to do next. Do I buy another hard disk? I think its a
software distrubution error but I since this is my first attempt to
load Debian I don't know for sure.

Could it be the CD ROMS that I bought?

Help!!!!!

Thanks

Gerry
