Since I don't use Kerberos myself I cannot test it. But
I've compiled it with PAM support so I guess that should
take care of Kerberos also.

although searching on /usr/share/menu/* /var/lib/menu-xdg/* could not find any *emacs* entries.`
no longer I think of the bug, because the update problem was in gnome-panel, not in debian-menu system.and sometimes those updates not occurs as newly-installed package's .post_inst scripts do not launch menu-xdg update command.

Sorry, it was because of `Xorg -configure` or `nvidia distributed video module configuring programs` generated xorg.conf.these old programs generate X11R6 based conf files. currently our X is R7 and most packages were transition aged.
