I got the bug too.
I do not know if the bug is in the package or in icedove, but purge / install
worked fine for me too (fixed the problem).
some more informations though:
Here are some errors I have in the Error Console when I start icedove.
The first two are upon startup. The third is when I try to send a mail, which is
not possible.
