It turned out to be an authorization issue which was solved by "xhost +"
for the non-root user. Calibre is still not doing the PDF conversion,
but the problem is with the plugin for that conversion not the Debian
environment. This can be closed.

This version of calibre fails to convert due to the "Failed to initialize
plugin: .config/calibre/plugins/DeDRM.zip" error.

I have tried the author'

is not in use - and the VirtualBox VMs start just fine. Hope this helps
someone else who might get tripped up by this.

You upgraded to 6.1.34-dfsg-2 from what? 6.1.32 or an earlier version?
How did you upgrade? dpkg, apt, or Synaptic?

This version is completely unusable as the guest OS never starts - the VM
display stays black with a blinking cursor. It is not guest OS dependent as
this is 100% reproducible with any guest OS. The VM log does not show any

A useful polyglot option might be to ignore games with illegal PGN
during make-book. It has a PGN parser so why not make use of it? The
ignored games should be logged somehow.

Hello,
It seems polyglot still has the "castling long" bug, i.e. O-O-O is
incorrectly considered illegal. I thought this was fixed a long time
ago. Here's an example from a compendium of TWIC1-1053:
/usr/games/polyglot make-book -pgn TWIC1-1053.pgn -bin TWIC1-1053.

Never mind. :-[
It is indeed makefile related. One of my raid controller drivers was
omitted from the .config somehow. After I rebuilt the kernel with this
driver all is good again. I'm pretty sure I didn't remove it as I would
have no reason to, but I can't prove otherwise. At any rate it is

Let me make sure I understand what you mean by "updating grub resolve
the problem".
Do you mean:
A. You ran 'update-grub' to refresh grub2's view of disks and partitions.
