chown user.group has been deprecated in favor of chown user:group for
many years. Yet, a codesearch for
[^[:alpha:]]chown[[:space:]][^[:space:]]+\.[^[:space:]] yields 829 hits.
Most of them are in docs, texts and comments, but I still feel
