Regardless of whether upstream is dead (and unable to provide configure.in), the fact that it is missing voids DFSG #2 and effectively voids DFSG #3 as configure cannot be modified in a reasonable way. DFSG issues are generally release-critical. A possible route would be reverse-engineering the configure script. Helmut
