Is there any update on this old bug?

This problem is killing my home server- when the connection drops it
fails to reconnect entirely. I have partially worked around the problem
by putting a call to ifup <connection> in the post-ifdown of the
interfaces file and removing the retry parameters from my dsl-provider
script, but if there is some transient problem that prevents the
reconnection attempt once, this configuration will not retry the
connection again.

Given that this apparently works with upstream's code (according to the
previous submission to the bug, I have not tested that yet myself,
though I would like to) and it's actually quite a serious problem (all
pppoe connections, whatever quality, will encounter transients that
cause termination occasionally) that could render a server inaccessible,
I think this should be investigated as soon as possible.

I am happy to attempt to contribute resources to the investigation.
