My problem was (and is) that "vsound --file xyz <command>" runs the command,
but doesn't leave any files behind when it exits. Something in the manual to
explain that the file name must end in one of a list of strings (which will
determine the format used) would clarify why vsound doesn't work, but I'd
prefer it if vsound did something more useful in such cases.

The bug report I gave was based on a misinterpretation of how to generalise
the example in the manual.
