Package: mdadm
Version: 1.8.1

Mdadm 1.8.1 is supposed to be an alpha version.

citation of the developer of mdadm, Neil Brown:

> This is a "development" release of mdadm. It should *not* be
> considered stable and should be used primarily for testing.
> The current "stable" version is 1.8.0.

Several problems were reported on linux-raid@vger.kernel.org by users e.g. of Mandrake which also uses mdadm 1.8.1. I would not consider it appropriate for using in a "stable" (even if it is called unstable) system.

I am using a self-compiled mdadm 1.8.0 on all my machines (from SuSE 8.2-9.2 to Debian Woody) - without (if not self-made) problems.
