Just for the record:
Epiphany uses the freedesktop mime database to determine the
handler for a mime type, so in order to be able to use zopeedit
for External Editor links you need to do the following:
1) Create .local/share/mime/packages/zopeedit-mimetypes.xml
with following content:

Using Debian with GNOME as default I would not find out how
to use zopeedit with epiphany, the default browser.
I can use it with mozilla, if I configure it as external helper,
so I know that zopeedit works in principle.
