I retried today with KDE-3.5.5 and can no longer reproduce the problem. Was it
a fix in KDE or was it Debian specific bug?

If I use kxkb to switch keyboard layouts there is a non-functional
key on the German keyboard layout.
The lower left key (with "<", ">" and "|") does not respond. If I do not
use kxkb this key just works fine.
