Try
killall powernowd
/usr/sbin/powernowd -d -v -v -v -v
and see if that gives you enough information to figure out what's wrong. It
works fine here...

With this latest release the daemon doesn't start anymore on my laptop. I have the same hw/sw and config(kernel ecc) as before the package
upgrade.
I'm running on debian sid with kernel vanilla 2.6.11.6.
