Package: dictd
Version: 1.9.15-1
Severity: normal

If the same databases are installed using serpento or dictd as server,
dictd refuses to find words with utf-8 characters in the databases.

Example: The German word Befürworter should be found in
debian-glossary.de or freedict deu-eng.

Using a correctly working client dictd refuses to define the word:

Jul 5 23:44:31 clara dictd[31289]: :T: avalon.bofh.ms DEFINE *
"BefÌrworter"
Jul 5 23:44:31 clara dictd[31289]: :N: avalon.bofh.ms * exact
"BefÌrworter"
Jul 5 23:44:31 clara dictd[31289]: :T: avalon.bofh.ms MATCH * .
"BefÌrworter"
Jul 5 23:44:31 clara dictd[31289]: :N: avalon.bofh.ms * .
"BefÌrworter"

(Sorry, if the pasted vovels are munged.)

Serpento gives the correct answers on the request, if the same
databases are installed. Words not containing utf-8 chars are found as
far as I can see from the freedict dicts but not from all others.

The Debian dictd files are available on debian-women and
www.witch.westfalen.de/debian-women/dict/. On "la-sorciere.de" is serpento
installed and can be asked for "Befürworter" or "WNPP".
