After reading some newsgroups, i think it is more a sort of
documentation bug:
In my example I've cancelled the extraction via CTRL-C because the
archive is really big (6GB).
It should be mentioned somewhere, that tar does restore symlinks (on
OTHER mount-points) _AFTER_ the archive is extracted.
As long as the operation runs the affected symlinks are stored as 0-byte
files on the filessystem.

If the operation is cancelled or tar encounters an error, the files are
not converted.

This should be mentioned somewhere.
