While I haven't tried with gdm (yet), just including pam-ssh-auth
before common-auth (and pam-ssh-session after common-session) works
fine for login.
Login works with just giving the SSH key's passphrase aswell as
hitting return at

Please enlighten me: how did you get it working with your example?
Password for the key is the same than system password. When the system
allows you to login, it loads and unlock your private ssh key, and add
it to your ssh-agent. Pam-ssh is not intended to be used as a standalone

Basically, it does not work. ;)
If @include common-auth is above @include pam-ssh-auth, as the
README.Debian tells me to do, GDM just barks at me that the password is
wrong and seems to ignore pam-ssh-auth (even the debugging output
