I've updated to apt-cacher 1.5 and it does indeed work now as a pure HTTP proxy for apt-get. For the record, I misstated the entry in /etc/apt/apt.conf. It should be
Acquire::http::Proxy "http://proxyhost:port"; Since this is now the simplest and most transparent method for configuring apt-cacher, could you add a mention of it to the man page?
