OK, at least, you have maybe found a solution. The problem is that 2.17 is not a stable version (by the way, latest unison is 2.24.5). Since it is not a stable version, i cannot package it for debian. BUT if you find which part in unison cause the "hang", i can extract it and replace this part in the source (if it don't introduce breakage).
