I think it's nice to have umask providing a "securized" default mask to file permissions when there's none provided... But I found silly the fact that when you choose to apply another, and you write it in your code, it's not what you wrote which is applied... I think that anything you clearly define in a command like mkdir, should overide the umask value without having to add code specific to umask...
