I'm tracking testing, and am getting font-related problems with various applications such as xboard, eboard, and a few others. In particular, xboard 4.2.7-6 (and 4.2.7-6.1 from unstable) both display the following error:
X Error of failed request: BadName (named color or font does not exist) Major opcode of failed request: 45 (X_OpenFont) Serial number of failed request: 13 Current serial number in output stream: 14 What's weird is that I have an older Sarge system that was upgraded to testing, and that one seems to work fine with the same version of xboard. Meanwhile, I have all the following font packages installed: $ dpkg --list \*font\* | fgrep ii ii fontconfig 2.3.2-7 generic font configuration library - support ii fontconfig-config 2.3.2-7 generic font configuration library - configu ii gsfonts 8.14+v8.11+urw-0.2 Fonts for the Ghostscript interpreter(s) ii gsfonts-x11 0.20 Make Ghostscript fonts available to X11 ii libfont-afm-perl 1.19-1 Font::AFM - Interface to Adobe Font Metrics ii libfontconfig1 2.3.2-7 generic font configuration library - runtime ii libfontenc1 1.0.1-6 X11 font encoding library ii libxfont1 1.0.0-4 X11 font rasterisation library ii psfontmgr 0.11.10 PostScript font manager -- part of Defoma, D ii ttf-freefont 20051102-2 Freefont Serif, Sans and Mono Truetype fonts ii ttf-sjfonts 2.0.1-2 Some Juicy Fonts handwriting fonts ii x-ttcidfont-conf 24 Configure TrueType and CID fonts for X ii xfonts-100dpi 1.0.0-2 100 dpi fonts for X ii xfonts-75dpi 1.0.0-2 100 dpi fonts for X ii xfonts-base 1.0.0-3 standard fonts for X ii xfonts-encodings 1.0.0-5.1 Encodings for X.Org fonts ii xfonts-scalable 1.0.0-4 scalable fonts for X ii xfonts-terminus 4.20-2 Fixed-width fonts for fast reading ii xfonts-utils 1.0.0-6 X Window System font utility programs I've seen a few other comments around the web saying the problem may have to do with xorg or xfonts-base. I'm running xorg 1:7.0.22 and xfonts-base 1:1.0.0-3. When running the scriptlet you suggested, I got tons of errors like these: font is -adobe-new century schoolbook-medium-i-normal--8-80-75-75-p-50-iso8859-1 xterm: unable to open font "-adobe-new century schoolbook-medium-i-normal--8-80-75-75-p-50-iso8859-1", trying "fixed".... font is -adobe-times-medium-r-normal--17-120-100-100-p-84-iso8859-1 xterm: unable to open font "-adobe-times-medium-r-normal--17-120-100-100-p-84-iso8859-1", trying "fixed".... There were lots more, but ALL of the problem fonts were Adobe fonts. I couldn't locate which package they belonged to, though, so I'm not sure what to do about it. -- Unabashedly littering the information superhighway with detritus like this for over 15 years now. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
