Package: file
Version: 4.17-2
Severity: normal

(I hope this is indeed the right place to drop this bug.
 Otherwise, my apologies)

This package contains a file /usr/share/file/magic.mime. This file
contains the following two lines:

<magic.mime>
# update to distinguish from *.vcf files by Joerg Jenderek: joerg dot jenderek
at web dot de
0       regex           BEGIN[[:space:]]*[{]    application/x-awk
</magic.mime>

These lines seem to induce warning messages. For instance, the package
Kronolith2 (part of Horde) installs a crontab that generates every
minute an e-mail with the following message:

<cron warning>
PHP Warning: mime_magic: type regex BEGIN[[:space:]]*[{]
application/x-awk invalid in Unknown on line 0
</cron warning>

A quick scan with google reveals that numerous other packages (notably
apache) generate similar messages. The warnings disappear when the
line that I quoted above is removed from
/usr/share/file/magic.mime. Therefore, I presume that the actual bug
resides in libmagic1 and not in the other packages.

Thanks,

Paul Huygen
