It's an ASUS card, FWIW.
Interestingly enough, the release notes for the new version 8.29.6 mention
an unrelated known problem with crashing on xvideo on Radeon X1Ks. Once
I manage to start X normally, I also have xvideo-related issues. It looks
like support for this chipset may be a particular work-in-progress area... :(
