binlogs are used for replication and disaster recovery.
If anything, 10 days isn't enough, as opposed to too long.

i'm not sure on the history for this... i don't have any problem with
changing it, but i'll defer to christian for what should be a reasonable

And why are logs kept for 10 days?
I've seen the logs being almost as large as the database itself.
And with daily backups, logs of 10 days ago don't seem to make sense.
