I traced the problem. It was related to an old config file being read.
Bug can be closed.

I don't know how to find out the exact previous version. The apt cache
directory does not contain it anymore. I went back to 6.4-1sarge3, the
only older version I could

None of the changes in the most recent upload should have impacted geo, as
far as I can tell.
