Subject: linux-image-2.6.18-3-amd64: lpt printer not working (garbage printed)
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-3-amd64
Version: 2.6.18_7_amd64
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Printer connected to parallel port prints garbage (or just nothing: seberal blinks and stop, sometimes).

The same platform running 386 kernel (other distro: FC4) works fine.

Simple test: (as root) echo Hello World>/dev/lp0

The same platform running amd64 kernel in other Linux distro (PLD2.0) fails in similar way - thus it is the general amd64 kernel (or kernel configuration) problem.

Probably it is the kernel bug http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5832
because the syndroms and configuration are very similar.

From the above bugzilla.kernel bug report: in some distros the problem has
been apparently "solved" temporarily by changing the default installed kernel config.

I'll post more if I find out. ;-)
