Hi,

my problem seems to be related to this bug:

I use a static wired connection over eth0 with "hand written" entries
in etc/network/interfaces and /etc/resolv.conf.

network-manager was only installed due to sucrose (the OLPC desktop)
depending on it.

After updating a lot of dependencies (amongst them network-manager to the
version 0.8.4.0-1 from /testing), my Internet connection was lost.

After starting another Computer and googling around and testing and ...
I found that the problem was a missing DNS nameserver and finally that
network-manager overwrote my manually configured /etc/resolv.conf file
without warning with an (except for a comment) empty file.

Restoring the backup file and restarting the OS did not help - the file
was overwritten again.

Does network-manager expect the "resolveconf" program/package to be
installed? If so, should it depend on it?

Could network-manager please handle /etc/resolv.conf as a configuration
file: check if it is modified by the sysadmin and do not overwrite in
this case without feedback?

Günter
