Package: denyhosts Version: Improvements to package description Severity: minor
Here's an improved description: Description: a utility to help sysadmins thwart ssh hackers DenyHosts automatically blocks ssh brute-force attacks by adding entries to /etc/hosts.deny. It also sends email reports about offending hosts, attacked users and suspicious logins. . Synchronization with a central server is also possible. . Unlike some similar software, denyhosts doesn't need support for packet filtering or any other kind of firewall in your kernel. I think there's only one possibly contentious change, namely that I deleted the mention of Python. This is because it's not a feature of the program's functionality, and is visible anyway in the dependencies. Users mostly want to know what the program does, not how it is written (I don't understand why so many programs' descriptions start out with "X is a Y program designed to..."). You might also want to change the first paragraph of the man page, based on what I've written above. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-3-686 Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
