investigate this bug yet, I'll get back to you soon.
At first glance it looks like emacspeak plays a role in this; if you
have the means to do so, trying in a regular (non-emacspeak) Emacs
would be interesting.

Increasing max-lisp-eval-depth has not helped. I tripled it and still
get errors. I also had to increase max-specpdl-size, which I increased
by 50%, but still not enough.
Looking at the tramp debug buffer, it seems there may be some sort of
looping going on. Either that or the way tramp works is
