I noticed that grub-probe gets the list of devices to probe from the
existing /boot/grub/device.map. If I removed the line from that file
that mentioned /dev/fd0 (which has never existed on this system) then
grub-probe no longer fails. However, I still can't get grub2 to install:
# dpkg
It seems that my particular failure is caused by my /boot being on RAID
and so is unrelated to this exact bug:
