Your script crashes 1.0.6-20 reliably on this i686 running Sid but I have
not been able to get it to crash the upcoming upstream release on the same
machine.

I can reproduce this behavior (actually 61603) on my server, castro,
which is amd64 (Intel Core2 Duo, 2GB RAM), but running i386 userland.

I'm running sid on amd64, with 1GB of RAM (in case that's interesting).
I ran it under gdb, and got:
#0 0x2b8095eca0c8 in ?? () from /lib/libc.so.6
