Hi Gordon,
I experienced the same behaviour with drupal5 and acidbase. Since
that file is managed by dbconfig-common I suspect that this bug is
related to dbconfig-common wrongly updating the configuration file.

On a recent upgrade, somehow dbconfig.php ended up incorporating a bunch
of diff information. Diffs don't execute as PHP very well.
