Do you get any interesting logs in .xsession-errors ?

(it might help if you check outside of X, move the file away and then
restart it to see what is generated in this session)

You could try moving your .config and .cache (or just the xfce related
bits) out of the way temporarily to see if there's something in your
xfce config causing this too.
