I was also hit by this, although it was the "master" interface that got the "_rename" suffix. Additionally udev would wait for 30 seconds during each boot, presumably on the basis that the name conflict might somehow resolve itself.
The udev package really should provide a smooth upgrade path for these
broken rules. Perhaps it could add ATTR{type}!=801 to rules with no
type restriction?
