Hi! I just found this bug report after encountering the same problem with aptitude today. It happened after I installed a bunch of new packages on my amd64 machine. Unfortunately, this one is kind of hard to repdroduce reliably. On my laptop with exactly the same version of all installed packages (i386 arch, though) it still works. htop has also been showing strange behaviours recently. It starts okay, but does not update the display and quits immediately when a key is pressed. I couldn't reproduce the vim behaviour yet. What I've gathered so far: screen in xterm fails xterm without screen works screen on console works console without screen works It might also be an ncurses bug, as htop, vim, aptitude and screen itself all depend on ncurses. I will post again here when I have more detailed information.
