I had the same or a very similar problem. After loading LennyBeta2 netinst, I
found that Samba shares would not mount on the machine though they would mount
on a machine which had been loaded from LennyBeta1 netinst and updated. I
reinstalled linux-image-2.6.24-1-i686 2.6.24-7 and linux-image-2.6.24 2.6.24+13
and the system now mounts cifs shares with no problem. The iso I downloaded
was:
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/lenny_di_beta2/i386/iso-cd/debian-LennyBeta2-i386-netinst.iso
