In Debian Edu, we do some modification to the default squid.conf file to get it working in our environment. It would be great if the generic part of our changes would be included by default in squid for Lenny. This BTS report is about one of these changes. A long time ago, we discovered that the default squid configuration did not work well as an APT proxy. The cached object size was too small, thus not caching some of the big packages, and the Release and Package file did not stay too long in the cache. These are the options we configure to do this: maximum_object_size 20480 KB refresh_pattern (Release|Package(.gz)*)$ 0 20% 2880 I am not absolutely sure the setting still make sense, but if it does, please change the default squid configuration to a change to make squid work better as an APT cache.
